old school evacuee

today, z's class took a train to dover, dressed like 2nd world war city evacuees

he had a ham sandwich and a piece of chocolate wrapped in brown paper, an apple and some water for lunch.

(they're doing this in history just now. good idea: bringing history to life a little)

must have been tough for children leaving their cities and living with unknown families in the nice english countryside

but probably not as tough as refugees fleeing syria have it now.

when z came home tonight he declared, 'after 4 years of living in the countryside, i've come home to the...countryside'
