mum-mum and dad-dad in the new/old house helping out: cleaning windows and sanding

fist time they've seen the place

when asked what she thought of the house, mum-mum laughed, 'yes: just the sort of place we've always hoped to live in'
heavy irony

she went on to say, 'some mothers do 'ave 'em'

later i said, 'mum, i'm confused by what you meant by that?'

'frank spencer' she said

'you think i'm like frank spencer?' i asked

'come here for a hug' she replied

not sure if she was hugging me because she feels sorry for me, or sorry for herself.

i don't think it's a bad thing that many people, including my family, don't understand the direction we're heading and the choices we're making

people seem especially confused by our intention to leave the (fucked) bare plaster that's been patched and over patched in various colours of plaster and cement over the years as our finished wall finish in the ballroom

i LOVE it: the patina, the animation of texture and colours

mark the plasterer (no relation to bob the builder) says 'it's alive' meaning the plaster on the lathes is falling off in places and held together by magic in others
there's a possibility that when we DO get some heating on, the plaster will just fuck off entirely

we'll see how it goes.
