famalama-ding-dong holibobs rescheduled from easter

we're in NYC

maximum has been in the states before (we took him to LA with us, he was 10months old)

z has never been to the states before

this is a whistle stop tour: we're trying to do as much as possible in the short time we have

the £ is SOoooooo bad against the $ now, this holiday is hurting

because me and maximum both caught covid in separate parts of the uk 4 days before we were due to fly in easter, we moved our break to august and now hotels, car hire and flights are 3x the price they were

in NYC we're staying at an old 'characterful' hotel with some proper old characters frequenting the hallways

on arrival, a old man pushing his zimmer frame round, wearing a dressing gown excitedly greeted sons

there is an old fat man shuffling through the corridors like a zombie and wears only a white vest and blue underpants

feels quite 'American horror story'

i know people who'd pay extra for this kind of 'patina'

back in the daaaaaay,  I used to travel between London-NYC and LA, often

but its been 7 years since we've been in NY and MUCH has changed

walked hangry sons in the wrong direction to the union square cafe for breakfast to find its now a chase bank

many, many places i knew and loved have gone for good

some others have arrived

but i, like everyone else who knew it, probably miss old (more exciting and photogenic) NYC and the people that lived here

i was kicking against going to the basquiat show as we'd already seen a GREAT one in England (BOOM FOR REAL) not so long ago

but this intimate show, with many never seen before works, put together by his family was INCREDIBLE!

SO worth the visit (thankyou auntie EM for the tickets!)

we are all in awe of his work

just SOME of my favourites from the show follow...
