recently my friend michelle olley started up a facebook thread with a bunch of photographers she knew, recommending a documentary on WW1 photography

and (to cut a longer story short) this led to the photographer derek ridgers mentioning another photographer, john 'hoppy' hopkins

who i looked up online, called and then went to visit today, to buy his incredible book 'from the hip' that features his stills from 1960-1966

spent an hour chatting, both part of the brotherhood of photographers.

hoppy isn't too well as he is living with parkinsons, but he's sharp of mind and despite his difficulty in speaking sometimes, i had a great conversation with a man still with a sparkle in his eye and an occasional cheeky smile.

check out his website here: http://hoppyx.com

but buy his book too: his archive is MUCH bigger than his website would have you imagine: his work is amazing.

after meeting hoppy, went into town to see the 'edward steichen' show at the photographers' gallery

and on to the national portrait gallery to see the 'taylor wessling portrait prize' show which our friend david titlow won first prize at this year.

RTB a little knackered

photographed some belts for some hours with stan, then dawn marie, then ursula and gillian.

the wednesday evening shoot became an unexpected party and afterwards we all drove north to n20 to a bulgarian restaurant recommended by stan and dawn marie.

work hard play hard.
