honister

honister

we were looking for the elusive, still unbuilt zip line

and ended up at honister anyway

if you haven't seen the unexpectedly moving film about mark weir, check it HERE

this was taken half way up fleetwith pike, about 400m above hoister pass: cars below looked like miniature toys cars

via ferrata extreme

via ferrata extreme

left nanaco taking pictures of fairy landscapes and took maximum on the via ferreta EXTREME at honister

which is like 'go ape' on steroids over sheer drops, up a serious mountain.

it was my idea

half way along, as we were traversing a cliff face with a 70m sheer drop, 400m above the pass, i wondered what i was thinking.

but MGM (mountain goat maximum) took it all in his stride: stepping up to be first down the overhanging ladder when an older boy called max was having second thoughts.

the pictures don't do the nuts-ness justice, but it was GREAT

the buttock clenching burma bridge was LONG

this picture gives you a sense of scale up there.

me and maximum were first over and half way to the cargo net crossing by the time i took this of the rest of our group

joined up with nanaco and after another picnic in the rain, went on a mine tour of the old slate mine at honister which was fascinating.

best slate in the world apparently.

maximum was fast to answer the guide's question with minecraft knowledge of 'bedrock'

jimmy saville lives

jimmy saville lives

jimmy saville was in our mine visit group

even down to the colourful shell-suit looking waterproofs

as we drove out of the car park, my window was down and i might have over-loudly said, 'bye jimmy'

which didn't seem to go down too well.

but if you ARE a jimmy saville look-alike  (or if you are jimmy saville) these days you should probably get a different haircut, not sport those sunglasses and not wear colourful waterproofs that look like a shell suit.

jim'll mix it had to become modern cement, after all
