I LOVE the turn of this genius georgian(?) engineering unfeasibility

these stairs are not original to the beginnings of the house (1795 AD) but have been here a while

we know this because there is a horizontal shutter that would close across the window but it is stopped by the staircase that now intersects it.

I know how this staircase works but it still amazes me that this thin thing holds up, and holds our weight as we walk up and down it

now we have a debate

Lucy wants to KEEP the distemper under the stairs and thinks it adds character.

I wanna scrape that shit off and paint it smooth

whatcha think?

chain featured here holds the heavy chandelier near the bottom of the stairs and there's another one at the top

these baubles merely light the middle
