when computers go bad

forgot to mnetion that after 7hrs of 'pre-lighting' before the reebok shoot in milan, with everything working fine, when my target/subject arrived, the first thing to happen was both sets of polyboard L's in the studio, collapsed.
which looked very professional.

then, after taking the first few shots, my digital card decided to make itself unreadable.
then the p30+ back got jammed with just the phase 1 logo and an error came up on the h2d saying 'communication error' neither of which could be cleared with repeated restarting and none of which has ever happened before.

'hahaha', i said trying to remain calm, '...how amusing that this should happen now: all the gear's been working fine, all day'.

in the 'old' days, if we had camera problems, we would reach for the backup camera.
now high end digital cameras are so expensive, we don't have backup cameras.

why do things always go wrong right at the absolutely worst moment?

as phil spector didst say, 'timing is everything'.

although we don't encourage it, 'things' always go wrong on shoots, with varying degrees of importance.
could be anything: the subject's allergic to flowers or scared of heights, the equipment's blown up, someone's stuck in traffic, lunch is 'wrong' etc..etc..
nobody realises what was going on behind the scenes when they look at our final pictures.

a professional photographer works round issues and solves problems without panic: easy style and still gets great photos.

anyway.

today...
z slept till 9am which has never happened before.

i woke up with a hangover...

...which i cured by doing the weekly shop which hurt more at £198
and followed with 2hrs retouching and 3hrs grass cutting.
